Once upon a time

It was once upon a time
As the fairy tales tell us
When I pursued the dream
To discover what the truth was.

Might it be sun might it be star
Who has seen it and who knows it
Tell me why tell me why
It is like a heart sealed tight.

It was once upon a time
When an angel passed this way and
On a shore teeming with light
Wrote its name upon the sea sand.

But once the wind erased it
Who has seen it and who knows it
Tell me why tell me why
It is like a spark that has died.

It was once upon a time
In the struggle and the flame where
I believe it caught my eye
As a tiny red drop shed there.

But before the summer came in 
Who has seen it and who knows it
Tell me why tell me why
